What do you do today to make a living?
I began pursuing work as a professional musician full-time in 2010. Roughly a third of my paid work is as a session and contracted live singer, a third is as a touring and session guitarist and a third is as a writer/arranger, primarily for vocal ensembles (which is my specialty). There's very little overlap between those three categories, but I get to use all of my different musical skills in my passion project XY Unlimited, an original band that combines the soaring harmonies of vocal jazz and a cappella music with catchy pop/rock songs. XY is on the rise as a touring and recording artist and I hope to make that my main full-time pursuit as soon as possible.
Describe the worst moment of failure in your creative/ entrepreneurial career.
I think my biggest setback was in 2008 when a project I had invested myself in pretty heavily–a modern vocal jazz quartet called FourWest–suddenly disintegrated. I had formed the group with two...
